There's a sea elephant in my kitchen

January 14, 2011

Dulux sea elephant that is. Our new splash back colour. Thank you Lauren (from Carlisle) for allowing us this final, and very last minute, change.

So here's a pic of our kitchen...

And here's our revised selections...

EDIT: As my fellow house tragics correctly pointed out, the image I posted was NOT of Osprey.  Hope I've got the right one now!  And I've added our floor selection.

From the display pic, where the darker laminate is, we're having Wenge.  White where it's white.  Sea Elephant on the splash back, which blends perfectly with the window and sliding door frames.  Adios oriental spice!!!

So that's it - no more changes - they're too expensive.  This change (and the increased door height to the theatre) cost us a $500 variation fee.  Exy I know, but better than having an orange splash back -apologies to anyone who DOES have an orange splash back ;)

Nice colour selections - very similar to our kitchen in fact - great minds and all that!

Looking forward to seeing it come to life ;)

Sea Elephant is a lovely colour, will go with Jasper frame very well. Isn't Lauren a doll. I was going to suggest the swallowing of $500 but ouch! they could have met you half way seeing the door height was their mistake. Osprey is great, we have in ensuite and bathroom - are you sure thats it in the picture?? A good day and well done.

Lovely colour choices Reinsey! Will compliment your other selections beautifully :)

I think you're right Deb..doesn't quite look like osprey in the pic..but It might just be the picture maybe?

Good choice Reinsey will all blend in nicely! Bit rich charging you that much especially seeing the doors weren't your fault. But as David says happy wife happy life. BTW when did you decide on a swimming pool coz there was one on your block today when I drove past - in your garage actually lol!!!

Wow! Looks fantastic :)

Deb & Tonia - you guys are GOOD. The real Osprey is now up (I hope). I could seriously consider cheating on Loz if Sea Elephant knocked on the door! (not an ACTUAL sea elephant!!!)

You'll love this... we were told today that our loo will be delivered any day now, and our site scrape is booked for Feb 12th. Hmmmmmmmm...

Shayne, I hope your kitchen goes in soon so I can check it out!
What are you planning on doing through the rest of your house??

Raelene said...

Janine, did you go for a swim??? What's happening with your builder? Have you heard anything yet?????
Nearly told them to stick their splash back change when they quoted $500, but it's way cheaper than replacing the whole thing in 6 months when we got tired of staring at orange all the time. As for the doors - blah - you should have seen the email exchange. I could have gotten OJ off the murder charge with the evidence I produced... ha ha

Thanks Jess - and a huge (if somewhat belated) welcome to Ayla. She's way more beautiful than my sea elephant!!

Yah for Osprey!! Perhaps you could ask for a refund on the double booking of toilet and scrape. $500 is a cheek for someone to type 'Sea Elephant' on your yet to commence house 'Colour Selection' sheet. As for the doors, I wonder if the variation charge works both ways when they want to change something, mmmmm?

You've gotta laugh!!! In my job I deal with customers needing to change things ALL the time. Sometimes those changes may take around 40 man hours to correct, but it's our friggin JOB to accommodate the wishes of the people. I don't sting them $500, I just swear under my breath, have a bitch with my staff and then we just get on with it and fix it up. I get that they have to draw a line and don't want changes all the time, but the only other thing I've asked to change was the jasper downpipes on my beige royal render - a few months ago - and they wouldn't do it. Breath Reinsey, it's okay!!

Seriously, I can understand structural changes are a no go...but, a colour change so early is pathetic. Did you get my pm?

Raelene said...

Sure did. Have you had a response yet Deb??

Debra said...

Nothing as yet...sometimes takes awhile to come thru.

I agree re: the variation charge - as Debra says all they have to do is cross out the original colour and type in Sea Elephant - its not freaking brain surgery - got a hide these builders, don't they?

Reinsey our kitchen is a combo of Poly in Dulux Lexicon & Panelart Concept Oak, with Osprey tops :) Landry and Powder Room and Ensuite are Concept Oak cabinets and Osprey benches, and upstairs bath is Osprey with some kind of white cabinets to lighten a smallish room..

Should be able to get an idea of cabinet colour in a few weeks time ;)

Nice kitchen! I do like that sea elephant color. Who would have thought a sea elephant would inspire a color?

Raelene said...

Thanks Annie - I hope it looks good with the colours we've chosen.
How DO they come up with these names? There's a green that a lot of people use called Nicks Nook. Nick who??
I'm trying to think what I would want to be called if I was a colour...

Great colours Shayne. Very calm and gentle. Will look lovely!!

Hi there, good decision in the change. I chose the oriental orange splashback with shimmer white caesarstone and white cabinets with a mix of linewood black and it looks absolutely stunning, i wouldnt change it for the world. It was a last minute thing too and its something thats a little different. I have the exact same colour in the hanging breakfast bench lights and it just looks unreal. Lots of 'wow' from family and friends and also even had one of them go and reinvent their kitchen with similar colours. U have lots of neutral tones and it would not have suited ur kitchen at all so good call on ur last minute change. Cheers
