Swimming pool inspiration

February 5, 2011

If you follow our blog you'll know that we live on a VERY steep block backing onto the Ferntree Gully National Park. Not an area you'd equate with flooding!

Check these pics I've just taken of our road taken from the front windows -  over a two minute span;

I hope that everyone we care about is safe and dry.  And please stop raining... my little brother gets married this afternoon and I'm not sure we're going to be able to get there.

It's a wonder you got in Deb. I take it you were in John's car, not your little echo??
S.E.Water are out working on the drains right now, and the rain has eased so they're not in any danger. Good thing their house is elevated though!!

Crazy indeed Shayne. We were on a 4 lane highway at about 6.30 last night, cars about 50m in front of us got through what looked like a little bit of water, and then whoosh - all 4 lanes flooded right in front of us. It was really frightening, pitch black (with 2 hours of daylight still to come) and we were just stuck there for an hour and a half while the police blocked off the road and diverted traffic so we could start u-turning. Every way we tried to come back to our house was blocked, and we ended up going half way back into the city in a big loop to avoid all of the overflowing creeks.

i can't imagine what it was like for everyone up in Qld. Scary stuff!!!

Yikes! Break out the raft!! I'm so glad your home is on the high side. Did you make it out for the wedding? Such bad timing, but then no time is good for this kind of weather event.

Reinsey I feel for you hope everyone is ok. The weather here in Auckland is warm and humid - a state David abaolutely detests - and we have no air conditioning so it's perspiration galore here! I hope your brothers wedding goes ok as long as it stops raining.

Yes, we were in John's car but....whilst looking for BonBon and getting the call she was found we raced back to house for wallet to give young man a thankyou. Turned off the car and couldn't restart, mine is blocked in driveway in torrential rain. Neighbours going out for Fish and Chips! gave John a lift to retrieve BonBon (we too had F&C). All settled and car will now start....drive to new house, don't turn it off!! coz I'm not spending the night here. drama, drama, drama, we wrote the script. My little car would've floated down William Thwaites. And this is supposed to be our prelude to retirement! Geez.
PS John was to play Golf in Club Championship today, cancelled - PO and gone to the office.

JTS - we're going to try and leave shortly. It's a 50 minute drive but we figure that leaving 4 hours early is better than not getting there at all. The rain has eased so we might be lucky!

J, can David wear shorts to the wedding over there???

Should have had my brother's wedding in NZ too, then it wouldn't be a wash out. Better not rain on my wedding day (if Loz ever asks that is)

Ya gotta laugh Deb. The Avenue really is like days of our lives!!!!!
